Virtual Universe
Your Virtual Identity
Avatars
An avatar is a interactive representation of a human in a virtual reality environment. Inside the Virtual Universe software
such an avatar is an 3D object similar to the ones used for building. So you can create your
very own avatars and use them exclusively. The objects which reperesent an avatar need to be located on a webspace and have
to be accessible without a password or any other protection. The directory structure required for it is identically to the one
described in the Advanced Build Section.
If you click the "Identity" tab pane on the side of your main window you will find a listview which can be used to manage
these avatars. Below of this list a text input field can be found where the complete URL to your avatar can be entered and
added to the list by pressing return. Now this URL is visible inside the list. If you single-click one of the entries there, the URL of your avatar will be submitted
to all other clients connected to the acutal world. These clients download your avatar object and display it, so you are
visible with your new avatar now.
Please note: "submission of the URL" does not mean, that every user which is online in a
world knows the URL. Only the program itself receives this information but users will not be able to access it and to "steal"
your object. That secures the exclusivity of your object.
The URLs inside the listview can be edited too. If you single-click an entry and press the "Rem Avatar" button, this URL
will dropped out of the list. Double-clicking an entry puts its URL into the text inputfield below of the list so that it is
possible to modify it and to add it again afterwards.
