Watch Buddies
The term "Buddy" should be well known from many other chat and messaging programs. It names a person which can be a
friend. To find out if this friend (or buddy) is online and free for a chat he can be put on a so called Buddy-
or Watchlist.
Add a Buddy to the Watchlist
To add a friend to the watch list different functionalities are useable. The most simple way is to right click its
name in the list of users in the chat-pane. Now a popup menu apperars. Simply
select the menu item "Add to Watch".
After this step the user should be listed in your watchlist (see following section).
Use the Watchlist
This list can be found on the left side of the main window. There you can see different tab panes. If you bring the
tab "Watch" to front you can see all users you're watching and their online states. These states are symbolized
by a icon in front of the users name. Following symbols and online-states are possible:
- Round earth-symbol: The user is online and free for a chat
- No symbol: The user is not online or invisible (invisible means he is not free for a chat)
- Red "BRB"-symbol: The user is online but temporarily not available (BRB - "be right back"); this state will be set
automatically if the user sends the chat text "brb"
Of course a user can be removed out of the Watchlist. To do that, select and right click the name of the user. A popup
menu with different options appears. choose the menu item "Remove User".
Change the own Online-State
The own online state (as described above) can be changed too. This can be done using the radiobuttons
at the lower end of the Watchlist. The state changes immediately when the desired button was pressed.
Only the "BRB"-state is a little bit different. It can be enabled by selecting the related radiobutton or by entering the
text "brb" (or "BRB") in a chat. Then the state will be changed automatically.
If you are in "BRB"-state and start chatting after you returned without changing your state, this is done automatically.
So every text you enter in the chat line will bring you back from the "BRB"-state.
Block Messages
Below the radiobuttons which change your online-state you can find a checkbox. This checkbox controls the possibility to
receive messages. If you select this checkbox nobody is able to send you a message. Instead of a delivering-notification
this user would be informed that you are not free for message-reception. This functionality is useful e.g. if somebody
bombs you with messages.
Functions
When you right-click into the "Watch" tab pane when it is on top of all tab panes which can be found on the left side of
the main window a context or popup menu appears. This menu offers following functions:
- "Send Message" - opens a new message window for the selected user which allowes to
send a short message to him
- "Add Watch" - adds a new user to the watch list; after there is no context to a user which is not already in the Watchlist
a dialog window appears where you have to enter the name of the desired user
- "Remove Watch" - removes the selected user from your Watchlist
